Finding True Confidence
Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence
before God... (1John 3:21)
If our heart does not condemn
us... That is a big 'if'. Often our heart is unsure, and it is not a place
of confidence. But the grace of God does not leave us alone to our insecurity,
for whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our
heart, and he knows everything. (1John 3:20)
Nothing we do can
assure our hearts in truth, except that we wait upon Christ, to serve him.
By this we shall know that we are of the truth and reassure
our heart before him (1John 3:19) Those that wait upon the Lord shall
renew their strength... (see Isaiah 40:31) And this is how we wait upon
Christ, this is how we reassure our heart before him:
Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.
(1John 3:18) Jesus said it this way, "Truly, I say
to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to
me." (see Matt 25:40) Little children, let
us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth. By this we shall know
that we are of the truth and reassure our heart before him; for whenever our
heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and he knows everything.
(1John 3:18-20) We reassure our heart before him by taking up the yoke
of Christ, learning from him in the good works of loving one
another.
Lord Jesus, thank you for your unfailing love.
You are my assurance. Help me to look to you, to reassure my heart before you,
by loving the people in my life, according to your mercy and graceful command.
As I participate in your love by loving those for whom you died, my heart is
assured in the confidence of your grace.
A very great and
precious promise
Beloved, if our heart does not
condemn us, we have confidence before God; and whatever we ask we receive from
him, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him. And this is his
commandment, that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one
another, just as he has commanded us. (1John 3:21-23 ) You
have God's Word on it. |
