Little Power
"I know your
works. Behold, I have set before you an open door, which no one is able to
shut. I know that you have but little power, and yet you have kept my word and
have not denied my name." (Rev 3:8 )
Jesus is showing us that it
is not the measure of power that overcomes, but rather, that we obey him.
"Because you have kept my word about patient endurance, I
will keep you from the hour of trial that is coming on the whole world, to try
those who dwell on the earth." (Rev 3:10)
The power that
overcomes, (even if it is very little), is only found as we rest in Jesus.
Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have
peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. (Rom 5:1) No rebellion of
our flesh, with it's desperate urging, arguments, and complaints, can enter
into our peace with God, so we deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow
Jesus. Through him we have also obtained access by faith
into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
(Rom 5:2) Through Jesus by faith, we have obtained access.
Even if the power is little, we stand in the power of his grace.
More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that
suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character
produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been
poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. (Rom
5:3-5) To those who have little power, who patiently endure in
Jesus, receive his encouragement: "The words of the holy
one, the true one, who has the key of David, who opens and no one will shut,
who shuts and no one opens. 'I know your works. Behold, I have set before you
an open door, which no one is able to shut.'" (see Rev 3:7-8)
Lord Jesus, your weakness is stronger than any
strength. Help me to enter into your rest, thankful for the grace to stand.
Guide me in the faith you have given me, to overcome by your grace in patient
endurance, instead of being anxious for power. I cannot do anything without
your humble grace.
A very great and precious promise
"I am coming soon. Hold fast what you have, so
that no one may seize your crown." (Rev 3:11) You have
God's Word on it. |
